Tuning your guitar by ear can be difficult, so learning to work the Seiko Sat100 digital guitar and bass tuner can save you a lot of time in getting your instrument tuned. The Seiko Sat100 has a LCD display screen and shows a needle that moves in relation to the pitch of the note that is played into it. When you’re searching for a note, the Sat100 also can emit the tone to help you in tuning your instrument. The tuner can be used for guitars and basses.

Turn on the Seiko Sat100 by pressing the “Power” button, which is located in the farthest left position out of the four buttons on the Sat100’s front display. If you’re using an electric guitar or bass, plug it in to the tuner using a 1/4-inch guitar cable. Plug the cable into the “Input” jack on the right-hand side of the tuner.

Ensure the arrow in the top right hand corner is pointing to “G/Bass,” and press “Up” and “Down” to select your desired instrument. If the black triangular pointer is pointing to one of the other four items in the list, press “Select” until it is pointing to “G/Bass.” Either “Guitar” or “Bass” should be displayed toward the bottom right-hand corner of the LCD display screen. Use the “Up” and “Down” buttons, which are located to the right of the “Select” button, to select the desired option.

Press the “Select” button so that the arrow in the top left-hand corner of the screen points to “Mode,” and use the “Up” and “Down” buttons to select either “Manual” or “Auto.” In “Manual” mode, you manually select the note that you are tuning to, and in “Auto” mode the tuner automatically detects the note.

Highlight “Note” from the menu in the top left-hand corner, if you are setting the desired note manually. Scroll through the menu by pressing “Select.” Use the “Up” and “Down” buttons to select the note. If you want to tune a string to a sharp or flat note, press “Select” to scroll through the menu to “b/#.” Press “Up” and “Down” to select the sharp or flat you want to tune to.

Play the string to be tuned. The needle in the center of the display moves, depending on whether the note produced by the string is high or low. If the string’s pitch is too high, the “#” indicator above the display screen lights up, and if it is too low, the “b” light illuminates. Tune the string so the needle goes into the middle, and the central green light switches on.

Press “Select” to go to the “Mode” option from the menu in the top left-hand side of the display screen. Use the “Up” or “Down” button to select “Sound” from the three options in the lower central portion of the display screen. This makes the Sat100 produce a guide sound for the note currently displayed. Choose “Pitch” from the menu, and then press “Up” and “Down” to raise or lower the pitch.
