The first wave of the update has hit the S6 Edge+ Korean variant. And is slowly arriving for the other models too. The update is labeled as build G928SKSU2BPAG for the Korean model, which has reached several users as a 1GB+ OTA. Note, that the build label may be different for your device model.

Currently, only the following models have received the update:

We will update the list when a new model is supported.

Of course, this is going to be a complete overhaul, accompanied by Doze, improved app permissions, updated Samsung Browser, and the visual changes.

The OTA update may take some time, may be even days to reach your S6 Edge+. But why wait when you can make a fresh install by manually flashing the firmware. No matter what build version you are running, or have a rooted phone, this method works for all and shall also take your phone back to the factory state.

Update Galaxy S6 Edge+ to Marshmallow

Before You Begin

  • Download and install Samsung USB drivers on your PC.
  • The update process will wipe everything off your device. So make sure to take a complete backup of your phone’s storage, and other necessary things like messages, contacts, apps, etc.
  • Charge your S6 Edge+ to at least 60% battery level.
  • Search for your model and download Marshmallow firmware: SamMobile
  • Download Odin Flasher v3.10.7 and extract it: Dev-Host

Instructions

  1. Boot your S6 Edge+ into Download mode. To do so, first power off your device completely. Now, press and hold Volume Down, Home, and Power keys until you see the phone’s display light-up. A warning screen will show up, press the Volume Up key to confirm and boot the phone into Download mode.
When the phone has entered Download mode, connect it to the PC using USB cable.
  2. Extracted the downloaded firmware file. For example, in my case, it is “G928CXXU2BPB8_G928COJV2BPB7_MID.zip“. Open the location where you previously extracted the Odin tool, and run Odin v3.10.7.exe.
  3. The Odin Flasher tool will now open.
  4. The Odin application should show the corresponding ID:COM port when the device has been detected successfully. In the Odin window, under Options, make sure F.Reset Time and Auto Reboot have been selected. Every other option should be unchecked.
  5. Now that everything is set, click on the AP button. Browse to the folder where the firmware files were extracted, and select the AP tar.md5 file. Next, do the same for CP, CSC, and BL. When all the files have been selected, click on Start.
  6. The flashing process will take a few minutes and when it’s complete, a PASS message will be displayed and your S6 Edge+ will reboot itself. You can disconnect your phone and close the Odin window now.

That’s it! You have just updated your S6 Edge+ manually to Android Marshmallow. Go ahead, enjoy the latest Android software and features on your phone. Tell us about your experience, through the comments. If you have issues during the installation, you can ask us directly.

Updating Zenfone 2 Using the Update File

Once you have the files downloaded, you have 3 different ways of updating your phone. Method 1 is the easiest to follow. However, if you have access to a PC we recommend the Method 2 as it is the safest to perform. Our preference – Method 2 > Method 3 > Method 1.

Before you begin:

Backup all important data (messages, photos; etc). Also, move apps saved in SD card to phone memory as App2SD it is no longer supported in marshmallow.

Method 1 – From Within Android

  1. Update to the latest Lollipop version using Settings> About> System update.
  2. Make sure that you have at least 60% battery and 2GB of free internal storage. This is needed by the phone to extract the update files.
  3. Copy the downloaded update file directly to your internal storage.
  4. The phone will show a System Update File Detected notification in a couple of minutes. Tap on the notification.
  5. Select the update file and start the update.
  6. Your phone will reboot to recovery mode, update and reboot normally.
  7. Wait for the apps to be optimized.

Enjoy the new software update. You will need to update Google Play Services immediately after the update so that all apps function normally.

Method 2 – Update via ADB (PC Needed)

We strongly recommend following this method to update your phone if you have access to a PC. There are lesser chances of the phone getting bricked during the update.

  1. Download & Install ADB & Drivers to your PC.
  2. Turn off your phone.
  3. Boot to fastboot mode by pressing and holding the Power & Volume Up keys.
  4. Use volume keys to choose Recovery Mode. Press power key to select.
  5. Select Apply update from ADB in Recovery Mode and connect your phone to the PC using USB cable.
  6. On your PC, navigate to the folder where you have saved the marshmallow update file. Right click while pressing the Shift key and choose Open command window here.
  7. Run the following command in the command window. Replace UL-Z00A-WW-4.21.40.184-user.zip with the exact name of the downloaded file.
  8. Wait for the file to be sent to your phone and installed.
  9. When all done, choose Reboot system now to reboot your phone.
  10. Wait for the apps to be optimized.

Method 3 – Update via SD Card

If you cannot follow the method 2, consider following this method as it is almost equally safe.

  1. Copy the Marshmallow update file to SD card of your phone.
  2. Boot to recovery mode by pressing and holding the Power & Volume Up keys and then choosing Recovery Mode.
  3. Select Apply update from SD card.
  4. Navigate to the update file and install it.
  5. When done, choose Reboot system now
  6. Wait for the apps to be optimized and enjoy Marshmallow on your Zenfone.

You might notice sluggish performance for a while after updating. The system takes some time to build the cache and perform app optimizations. Your phone should perform normally after all is done.

If you are not happy with the updated version, you are always free to downgrade back to the Lollipop version. However, the new version does bring some system and usability improvements which you will be missing.
