IBM Datacap is a complete solution for document and data capture. Datacap scans, classifies, recognizes, validates, verifies, and exports data and document images quickly, accurately and cost effectively.

Functional enhancements
- Transactional scanning supports the Daeja virtual viewer when you scan from Navigator or IBM Case Manager. Learn more from Knowledge Center correction document, heading: Enable or disable Daeja Virtual viewer in transactional capture
- PDF and TIFF thumbnail support on scan client: In Datacap Navigator, you can see the PDF and TIFF files thumbnails on Scan with Datacap Navigator client tab. Clicking the thumbnails, you can view the PDF or TIFF page.
- Custom hot keys for toolbar buttons and lookup buttons are provided.
- Create filter and manage saved filter: You can now create a list of pre-defined Job Monitor filters. You can maintain their own list of saved filters. Learn more from Knowledge Center correction document, heading: Managing saved filter
Cognitive-related enhancement
- Verify client supports to verify table fields: You can verify client supports to verify table fields that are created by CopyAllBlocks action of Insight Edition.
- Extracting data or multiple values found by text analytic: You can verify panes that can populate drop-down lists from line item details and in table cells. Learn more from Knowledge Center correction document, heading: Extracting data to drop-down list
- Custom verify panels display: You can view Custom verify pane result lists generated from web service lookups that are run in a task profile.
Usability enhancement
- You have Configurable confirmation dialog when submitting, holding, canceling, and aborting batch. Learn more from Knowledge Center correction document, heading: Configurable default sort column and sort order for Job Monitor and task list
Enhancements in Datacap Insight Edition
- ExtractText annotators support: Running of the ExtractText annotators is supported for using text that spans blocks at the Document level.
- Edit table cells that contain multiple levels of sub fields: In Datacap Navigator, you can edit the table cells that contain multiple levels of sub fields. Navigator is able to verify table layout and content that is created by CopyAllBlocks action from Insight Edition.
FileNet P8 Integration enhancements
- FileNet P8 Export actions now support exporting role-based redactions on multi-page TIFF and PDF documents.
Recognition engine updates
- OCR/SR update: OCR/SR is updated to new Recognition Engine Version 20.
- Support for y_SplitOnlyBySeparators configuration: The support is added for y_SplitOnlyBySeparators configuration setting in ABBYY OCR/A that informs the engine to only recognize a table based on the grid lines on the page.
- Improving table identification: A mechanism is added to provide table coordinates to OCR/A to improve table identification when the location can be zoned.
- Setting for OCR/A Table recognition: A setting in ABBYY engine is exposed to be used with table recognition to force the engine to recognize each line in a table to be a single row. If the table only has one line per row but the engine is recognizing multi-line cells, this setting forces the engine to use a single line per row.
Auditing enhancements
- IBM Datacap Taskmaster Server generates SLMTag files for user auditing. See the License usage metrics for IBM Datacap Knowledge Center topic for details.
- Logs hourly unique concurrent user metrics and daily total unique user metrics are enhanced for Authorized, Employee, and External Taskmaster license users.
Datacap Desktop Client enhancements
Datacap Desktop provides the following features, so you can:
- select multiple batches in Job Monitor for deletion, by using the delete key or mouse right-click instead of the current ‘Delete All Batches’ button. Learn more fromKnowledge Center correction document,heading: Enhanced the delete functions
- select multiple images or documents for deletion in a single action.
- select multiple images or documents to merge or join in a single action.
- select multiple images or documents, by using the mouse, from the Tree and/or Thumbnail view, and drag to a target location.
Technology preview: DStudio Testing Framework
The DStudio testing framework allows the application designer to validate application configuration by comparing ruleset results against known sets of test documents having expected results. A difference engine contrasts the results, then generates an overall assessment and displays a comparative view of the variances. Datacap Mobile Android usability enhancements
You can see and use the following features in Datacap Mobile App:
- You can see the simplified user interface, more updated icons, and color scheme.
- Document-level property is support.
- Multiple job types (workflows) per application for more flexibility in use cases.
- Hide fields ('-2' status) for mobile only.
- Adoption of new Year.Quarter.Nth version.
- Recognition made easier with real-time OCR-edit box.
- You can populate the document and folder level properties with OCR results captured from each image.
- You can see the user interface to guide capture of two sided identification documents (for example, US Driver licenses)
- On device validation of human readable information against data elements is decoded from ID’s MRZ or bar code.
- You can see the Display of color coded confidence levels.
- Document recognition performance is improved.
- Labels for display names are supported.
- Biometric passport recognition is supported.
- You can remove all application connections or services, including last one.
- Field values can be preserved upon moving pages between documents of same type.
Datacap Mobile Android Box Integration enhancements
- Direct export to Box: You can export the basic folders, documents, pages, description field model to Box.
- Documents are exported to Box as collection of JPEG files. The description field value for the folder (batch), document, and page is used to populate the description attributes for the folder, documents, and pages in Box.
- Documents are exported to Box as image-only and multi-page PDF document (default setting).
- Roll-up of data that is extracted from pages of a document to Box Custom metadata of exported multi-page PDF (Box Enterprise preview).
- Description field value of folder and document that is used to name folder or document and populate its Description metadata in Box.
- You can have an option to export metadata as SCV file to a Box folder.
Datacap Mobile Android SDK updates
- Complete reimplementation of the SDK.
- Existing Android Apps (9.0.1 and prior) needs to be modified and recompiled.
- SDK: Image quality detection API to return quality of the image based on sharpness.
- SDK: Ability to add custom actions to the Image Edit controller/activity.
- SDK: New functions added to Camera controller/activity to provide feedback to guide user actions (invalid ratio, document too small, camera moving, document edges that are not detected, no text in document).
Datacap Mobile Android Image-Processing enhancements
- EXIF geotagging is supported for viewing image files.
- Compression quality setting is applied to transactional capture.
- Edge detection algorithm is improved to prevent erratic auto-capture of non-document objects.
- Manual manipulation on cropping/de-skewing is improved.
- JPEG compression is set as default in Datacap App settings.
Datacap Mobile Android Recognition and Identification enhancements
The following capabilities are in Datacap Mobile App (Android):
- Recognition of US Driver licenses based in the AAMVA Secure Card standard.
- Recognition of French National Identification Cards (based on 2 MRZ lines).
- Flexible ID recognition configuration by using Datacap variables for document, page, and fields, instead of fixed symbolic names.
- Decoding a bar code inside a zone automatically is possible.
- Transfer of OCR positional information to Datacap server for display of snippets in Verify user interface.
Datacap Mobile Android Check Processing enhancements
- Check processing run automatically upon assigning check-enabled page type.
- Argentine check support is added.
- Flexible check recognition configuration is supported by using variables in Datacap application.
IBM Datacap Mobile (shrink-wrapped app 10.4.1)
- Regular expression can be associated to a field to improve recognition accuracy.
- Validation for US Driver licenses is improved.
- iOS 11 and iPhone X are supported.

Known Issues, limitations, solutions
- Problem in selecting multiple images in Imageview
- You cannot select multiple images by using the shift key in Imageview, for VScan, ISISScan and TWAINScan. So you cannot do the next actions to the multiple images.
- Problem in selecting multiple images in Batchview
- When you select multiple images in Batchview by using ctrl or shift key, then the same images are not getting selected in Imageview, for VScan, ISISScan and TWAINScan. So you cannot do the next actions to the multiple images.
- Content Manager Resource item types support limitation
- IBMCM_SearchAndDownload() action only supports IBM Content Manager Document item types. IBM Content Manager Resource item types are not supported.
- Behavior of IBMCM_SetAttributeValue() action
- IBMCM_SetAttributeValue() action has an existing behavior. When you use the SetAttributeValue() action to update attribute values after calling IBMCM_SearchAndDownload(), each time calling to IBMCM_SetAttributeValue(), it checks out the item, updates the item attribute, and checks in the item.
- Behavior of FNP8_SearchAndDownload() action
- To prevent downloading duplicate item content, the task that calls FNP8_SearchAndDownload action should not be run in a multi-threaded configuration. Instead, use single threaded tasks. For information about configuring threads in Rulerunner, see the Configuring Rulerunner Knowledge Center topic to run tasks.
- Window size not retained when viewer is unlocked from a second monitor
- In Taskmaster Navigator, when you unlock the viewer from the main pane and generate a viewer only window, resize the viewer only windows to a different size, then log out and log in again, the viewer window size is not retained. It returns back to the original window size.
- Problem in viewing images using Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers: In a dual monitor setup with Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers, after opening in a new window, if you do not select 'Attach to Main Window' option and log out and close the browser then relaunch the Scan or Index batch, Verify or Speedscan, the position on the screen might not exactly be the same as it was when closing the browser window.
